My Baby Has a Broken Bone

Today my mom is in town visiting and we set out to have a great day. Aidan and Brendan got to play with their cousins all day and they were having a great time! We went to a local playground in the afternoon and it was really busy and crowded with some older kids. We had 3 adults and 4 kids and it was hard to keep up. Aidan really wanted to go down some of the really big slides. He did it a few times on his own, but I think he felt a lot more comfortable on our laps. Plus, a few times when I went down with him some older kids were trying to climb up and it made me really nervous.

Unfortunately, we learned today that going down a slide on a lap isn't necessarily safer! Aidan's left leg got caught and twisted, and now the poor fellow has a tibia with a spiral fracture and a cast on his entire leg. He is not allowed to bear weight on his leg for the next 4-6 weeks. The poor fellow. He is such a trooper, too. I swear if it had been Brendan he would have been having a fit, but we almost weren't sure if there was anything wrong with Aidan. He kept saying "hurt" when I touched his leg and he was crying, so I knew to take him in. The doctor said that they see this injury a lot from a kid going down a slide on a lap, so there's my warning to you all.

Now, we have to figure out how to do everything with a cast on. I have no idea how to dress him, and we have to somehow give him a sponge bath every night instead of a real one. It should be interesting! Poor guy.
Notice how nice the orthopedic nurse was to put a cast on Grover's leg, too!

I have to thank my mom and sister for watching Brendan while we took Aidan to the urgent care. Thanks!

Oh no! Poor little Aidan!! :( A mom in my LLL group had the same thing happen to her son. I just don't think enough parents know that this is such a risk. Kisses to Aidan, hope it doesn't hurt too bad anymore.

Poor Aidan! I never knew that was a risk! I too, would think it would be safer! I hope you can figure out how to dress and bathe him. Sponge baths are the pits! I hope he's not in any pain! Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Oh, poor guy! I would have never thought that would be dangerous. Grover's cast was a great idea!

Poor Aiden! I had know idea it wasn't safe to slide on someone's lap! We use Glad Press 'n Seal over casts to keep water out. You can't submerge it, but it keep it from getting dripped on. My middle dd has had 2 broken bones.(one involving a slide) 4-6 weeks is a long time not to put weight on it. Will they be x-raying it sooner to see how its healing?
